We are excited to welcome a new member to the BLE Locking team! Let us introduce our Lead Mobile Developer, Mikk.
We will let him tell you what makes him such a great asset to our team:
Tell us a little bit about yourself
If one would like to get my attention, then showing me a hedgehog or a fox is the way to go. I admire these creatures for their uniqueness and character. Hedgehogs are wise and rather slow, but not as wise or slow as turtles. Hedgehogs are perhaps more clever and picky than turtles. And foxes – they seem to be something in between dogs and cats. I like to think of myself as more of a dog person, but in reality I tend to spend more time with cats.
While I’m passionate about mobile apps, I’m also into cars & coffee culture, making music, cycling, building-a-home-not-a-house, living more sustainably, practicing folk dance, and surprise-surprise: I’m still a LEGO kid.
Perhaps people closest to me know better, but I like to think that I’m an empathic person trying to be as reasonable as I can. Sometimes I get stuck in details, because my inner perfectionist wants to be nurtured.
I like to ask more of how and why questions, which has led me to mobile apps. It all started back in 2010, when in high school I got to participate in an entrepreneurship competition. I won the title of The Most Entrepreneurial School Boy of 2012/2013 school year in Estonia with an Android application, which I created with self-learned skills. At some point I found myself as the youngest participant in Garage48 hackathon, solving student problems with mobile apps, while also getting noticed by the President of Estonia at the time (who liked to tweet a lot and even invited me to the Presidential Reception).
How did you find your way to BLE Locking?
All this buzzing life ended with high school, once I became a dad and had to find a job to bring bread on the table. Surprisingly, I managed to find a job as an Android developer without any previous experience or degree. Still passionate about mobile apps, I worked my way up in a software development company – first as an Android developer, then learned iOS, and at some point I was given the team lead and technical product owner role. I helped the biggest telecommunication company in the Nordic and Baltic countries to get their app’s rating from 2 to 4.5 on both, iOS and Android apps.
One wise lady sparked an itch in me saying that if it’s not scary, then it’s not challenging enough. I found myself deeply in my comfort zone and scared of nothing at my job so I started passively looking around.
One day Oliver contacted me, and without any warning, I found myself fascinated about the BLE Locking products. I’m still enlightened about how well the products work and how smooth the app looks and feels. And yes, this new world of smart locks is scary and challenging to me, but hey, we are rocking it with the BLE Locking team!
